Kentucky Derby Start Time, How to Bet In Nevada & Where To Watch

Also referred to as “The Run for the Roses,” the Kentucky Derby is the longest running sporting event in the U.S. This Saturday, it returns for it’s 144th running.

At Station Casinos sports books, we’re once again ready for the Derby! From drink specials to giveaways, this Saturday should be a race to remember in Las Vegas.

The Kentucky Derby: What You Need to Know

Chuck Esposito, director of Race & Sports at Sunset Station, breaks down the Kentucky Derby action for us.

Hey guys, I’m Chuck Esposito, Race and Sports Book Director here at Sunset Station, and it’s Kentucky Derby week. What does that mean to us? It means packed houses, and all of our race books for the most exciting two minutes in all of sports.

It’s the most heavily wagered race that we have the entire year. It’s the 144th running of the Run for the Roses. Of course, there’s favorites. There’s long shots, and everybody has an opinion. But it is an exciting time, regardless if you’re a small better or a big better, everybody wants to watch these horses when they come down the stretch.

When you look at the Derby, the favorite is clearly Justify. Right now, about three to one, those odds will definitely change. An undefeated three year old, but you can make a case for probably about five or six horses, but as we well know, there’s always long shots. Weather can be a factor, and we’ve got a lot of great seminars going on at all of our properties, Thursday or Friday. You can check it out, and we’re giving out some great information.

For the last couple of years, a lot of our guests have hit big by listening to some of these handicappers. So check out our seminars. We’ll have that posted as well for you guys. And some great information. But right now, Justify is the clear favorite in the 144th running of the Run for the Roses.

And of course with Derby weekend, we always want to take care of our race guests. So we got some really cool stuff going on. I mentioned the seminars. But not only that, on Friday, the day of the Kentucky Oaks, a $10,000 twin queue. On Saturday, the day of the Derby, a $20,000 twin queue. Just think, for $2, you could possibly win $20,000. And on Saturday, Derby day, while supplies last, so you’re going to want to get here early, for a $20 race bet, a official Kentucky Derby t-shirt.

So we love giving this stuff back to our guests. We love when they come out. I still see guests wearing Kentucky Derby t-shirts from the last five years. So it’s a cool souvenir. But again, an official Kentucky Derby t-shirt for a $20 race bet on Derby day this Saturday.

Don’t forget on Derby day, guys. If you can’t make it out in the book, you’ve got STN mobile. You’ve got the race app. We know it’s going to be busy and crowded, and we know what it’s like on Derby day. But if you got the race app, that race track, Churchill Downs, guess what. It’s at the palm of your hands.

So come on in, get signed up for STN mobile. Either race or sports will get you signed up in a matter of minutes. And you’ve got that race, Run for the Roses in the palm of your hands. I’ll see you this weekend, guys.
